Update Rollup #2 For SCOM 2012 R2 Introduces New Widgets

With UR#2 for SCOM 2012 R2 new widgets are introduced.

As Microsoft describes it: ‘…updated widgets that allow you to create richer dashboard visualizations within Operations Manager…’.

All the widgets are described on this Wiki page.

These new widgets are enclosed in the Microsoft.SystemCenter.Visualization.Library.mpb MP which must be imported into SCOM 2012 R2 (as part of the rollout of UR#2 for SCOM 2012 R2).

Where are my new widgets?!
Sometimes people tell they can’t find the new widgets after the update to UR#2 for SCOM 2012 R2. Here are some fixes:

  1. Import the MP Microsoft.SystemCenter.Visualization.Library.mpb. Sometimes the first import fails, so import it again. Now it will run just fine.
  2. When Step 1 doesn’t work, close the Console and reopen it.
  3. When Step 2 doesn’t work, close the Console, restart the SCOM services on the related Management Server and reopen the Console.

When applying Step 3, make sure you don’t stop all the SCOM services on all SCOM Management Servers at the same time. But do it per Management Server instead and only start with the next Management Server when the previous Management Server is up and running.
